What isn’t there to like about going new places, seeing the sites, eating local exotic food, drinking foreign booze and experiencing a different way of life? Absolutely nothing, right? Wrong. The answer is getting there. Traveling is the worst thing that has repeatedly ever happened to me. But “getting there is half the fun!”– the people that smugly utter that phrase to me should just go ahead and go directly to hell.
Getting there is the worst part of a trip. The people. The plane ride. The no leg room. The various foul smells. The rude ass flight attendants. The layovers in shitty airports when you are forced to make a Sophie’s Choice of what kind of disgusting food you are going to shove in your exhausted and puffy travel-riddled face: Subway or McDonalds. The person sitting next to me who is actually reading this post as I type it on my flight back from San Diego to Palm Beach. Getting there is, in fact, the opposite of fun.
