Arts Festival celebrates relationship between words, pictures
Like a wheel rolling downhill, the Minot State University arts and music festival, NOTSTOCK, continues to gain ground. What began five years ago with an artist at a table for a day, has become an annual event that presents multimedia artists communing with hundreds of visitors, new and old.
NOTSTOCK 2011 runs from 6-8. The event this year celebrates the relationship between words and images of comics, poster art, books, magazines and any environment where words and images collide to create meaning in the culture .
Family this year the event includes displays of rock and cartoonists, a bookseller, publisher, writer, local musicians, an educator and self-publishing an artist who brings to children's drawings of life monsters.
"It's a practice, a participatory event, all along," said Bill Harbort, MSU professor of art and NOTSTOCK co-organizer.
"The event offers something for everyone, from elementary students to college students in the community," said Laurie Geller, MSU associate professor of mathematics and NOTSTOCK co-organizer."It brings together award-winning professionals who share their knowledge, experience and talents with the community areas in a manner up close and personal. Guests become participants in the arts, not just observers.
