Gov. John Lynch, Mayor Eileen Foley To Attend 'Lift Off' Party
The "Lift Off" party for the Memorial Bridge, this Saturday will feature live music, games, shucked oysters and some political dignitaries.
According to Ben Anderson, executive director of the Prescott Park Arts Festival, Governor John Lynch and former Mayor Eileen Foley Portsmouth will participate with other states and Maine officials in a ribbon tying off ceremony at 4:00 p.m.
In an e-mail, Anderson wrote the ceremony is "similar to the opening ceremony that opened the bridge in 1923."
Anderson wrote that when Foley was 5 years old, she cut the ribbon of silk first to open the bridge and will be available to assist staff in the opening ceremony again.
Other things "Lift Off" revelers can expect a screening of the Disney movie "Finding Nemo" in Prescott Park following the fireworks will be launched from the base of the bridge 88.
Anderson wrote that the receipt of beer / wine will be held at a wharf Harbour Place from 16:30, which will include the whole steamed lobster and fresh oysters shucked.He wrote the two areas will be connected with a walk along the Avenue Scott, open only to pedestrians that day.
